Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Crab roe noodles really lived up to expectations - creamy umami goodness with bits of prawns and dried scallops that would leave one wanting more. Chicken rice was excellent - smooth, moist chicken and fragrant rice. Chili sauce, dried chili and pickled cucumbers were fabulous. Dry curry chicken hor fun was not fantastic, gravy was good but lacks ‘liao”. Iced drinks weren’t cold enough (for me). Cold barley drinks should be served with a larger straw. Overall service was good, polite and attentive."
"Came here to try out their chicken dish for lunch. Half chicken portion will set you back at RM39.90, one Chinese stir-fry cabbage RM17.90, Soup (ABC) of the day RM5.90, Marinated soft boiled eggs (@RM3.50) and two bowl of Chicken oiled rice at RM3.50 per bowl all are excluding service and SST taxes. The chicken is fully deboned and the presentation is good. This is one of the very few dining place that use quality ceramic plates. Kudos for that. The cabbage vegetables might be a simple dish but it's nicely stir-fryed with enough of wok hei. The marinated eggs are tasty and with well timed runny yolk. As for the rice, it's a tad small portion for the price per bowl. Although this is a local establishment, it's fully run by foreigners from the kitchen to the front service staff. Service staff are friendly and helpful however one of them have a habit of speaking loudly across the dinning area to the back on the day we dine in which mar the atmosphere. The surprise of the day is the washroom. It's well maintained, reasonably clean and have some interesting "facilities" such as tooth floss, toothpicks, mouthwash and even unused new sanitary pads! Overall it's a good place to dine-in if you're happen to around."
"Came all the way from Singapore to eat this. The chicken was absolutely on point, but to be honest the rice needs improving la. Was skeptical after seeing mixed reviews before coming here but 5* to the chicken! The soup of the day was so good? That was the dish that really surprised us. Definitely one of the best 白斩鸡 I ever ate."
"Xi Yue serves up some seriously tasty chicken rice—the chicken is tender, the rice is fragrant, and the flavors hit just right. The vibe is warm and inviting, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal. What really stands out? Their soup is absolutely delicious, and you get refillable pickle cucumbers, which is a nice touch! The only drawback is that it’s a bit pricey compared to other chicken rice places. But with the quality of food and the good atmosphere, it’s worth treating yourself."
"As a rare visitor to KL, I decided to skip the usual tourist traps & go hunting for a hidden gem, because nothing screams “holiday adventure” like chasing after a Facebook influencer’s food recommendation at the far end of Cheras. So here we were at Xi Yue Happiness Asia Chicken, famous for their Crab Roe Dry Noodles (RM29.90) which, at that price point, you’d expect to come with at least a handshake from the chef. The dish arrived looking very “premium”, that’s because they kept every ingredient - spring onions, bean sprouts, vinegar with ginger slices, & chilli oil in its own separate little ramekin, all neatly presented on a wooden tray like a luxury tasting flight of condiments. After “feeding” my camera (priorities first, of course), I mixed everything together & tucked in. Credit where it’s due, it was tasty, & rich & well-balanced, something I’d happily order again if I’m ever back. Then came the Ipoh Chicken HorFun Soup with Tiger Prawn (RM17.90). The broth was ok, comforting enough, though the prawns, nothing “tiger” about it, further sliced thinly in half, were about as fierce as a pet goldfish named Bruce. But the real star of the show? The abalone. Singular! Just one! And not just any abalone, this one was so microscopic I nearly mistook it for a bubble in the soup. About the size of a Malaysian 5cent coin, it was so tiny it could probably fit perfectly between my teeth, but not quite make it to my stomach, I’m afraid. I couldn’t decide whether to laugh or file a missing persons (or abalone rather) report for its parents. We also tried the Dry Curry Hor Fun with Tiger Prawns (RM16.90), which thankfully redeemed things a little, nicely presented, fragrant, & topped with half a perfectly soft-boiled egg & a single mint leaf that looked like it was there mainly for a moral emotional support. Still, the curry sauce had a good flavour & was actually quite satisfying. All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience, helped enormously by the air-conditioning (which in KL counts as a Michelin star on its own). Prices are on the premium side, & with the extra 6% SST plus 10% service charge on top, your wallet might feel a little less “happy” than the restaurant’s name suggests. But if you’re in the area, the Crab Roe Noodles are worth a try, just don’t blink, or you might miss the abalone entirely."
"Was eagle to try out this long que restaurant. Just ordered the boneless tigh chicken rice for $16.90. Chicken and sauce are good. But I missed the chicken soup where doesn't include in the set."
"My cousin from Australia is here so I decided to bring her to the best chicken rice at Malaysia , ambience got air conditioning and clean here , I tried the Kepong branch , somehow the chicken there tasted better and I don’t know why . Service here was nice and attentive by foreign workers ."
"Our second visit to this place. The team of foreigner staff are all friendly and attentive. The order process with QR code is quick and smooth. Food was served nice and warm. We enjoy the soy sauce of the chicken a lot. We tried both warm and cold option of the chicken. They are not huge difference in between two but we prefer the cold version more. The free refill pickeld cucumber and the ginger dipping sauce are really good. We ordered the Milo Dinosaur and the stafd came with a surprise Dinosaur mask. This is quite creative and we do love this interaction."
